It's an Illusion

You know the commercial for the Air Freshener that sings "Plug it in, Plug it in"? Well I have a new version of this song. It's called "Shove it in, Shove it in". I am referring to the times in life when you are busy and you can account for every minute of every day and still there seems to be the creeping piles of paperwork, stacks of dishes waiting to be dealt with, laundry piling up and the like. If you get to feeling overwhelmed (and this dear cyber reader is very easy to do), simply sing this song as you go around the house finding large boxes, stoves and various sized laundry receptacles to hide the evidence. Try it with me everyone "Shove it in, Shove it in" . There now, don't you feel better? I have in fact tried these techniques and am here to tell you that they work excellently. Let's imagine for a moment that you have been busy for days on a project that is taking all your spare time and energy. Now, I know that really, you can never...

Signs of Spring

Image
I stopped by Timmie's yesterday for lunch and got a large tea and noticed "Roll Up The Rim". That's a sure sign of spring. [When my second son was very small and couldn't read, he asked his Dad to read what he'd found under the rim. My husband told him it said "Play again, LOSER ". Apparently it stuck in his head because he went up to some complete strangers a little while later when he saw them rolling up their rim and told them point blank "You what that says? It says 'Play again, LOSER' ". Now, every time we roll up the rim, or get a game card of any kind, we open it up and repeat this family joke. In a strange way, it makes us all feel better that we are not driving away in the brand new SUV or watching the massive TV screen. Personally, I say "show me the money" but that's for another blog.] Other signs of spring? Well, my snowdrops have come up and are blooming their little hearts out. The crocus (is the plural ...

Spinning the Wheel

I'm sitting here pondering what brilliant thing I will write about. Sometimes when I blog, I imagine I am writing for a magazine and have a dead line. What to write? What to write? When the page is blank, it feels a little like there's shackles on my creativity. So my solution is just to start somewhere. Tonight, I am going talk about random things. Its going to be like spinning the topic wheel. Pick whichever one you want to read. I went to the 2008 Grad Fashion Show this afternoon with my second son. He came with me [being bribed by a Timmies driveby ] and took some video and pictures of the kids. I was struck by several things. One is that when my daughter was finishing elementary school, I had grave concerns about high school. It seemed such a big place. Every time I drove by the school, there were kids hanging out in front and all I could think of was my little girl going into such a tough looking atmosphere. After four years at the school, I drive by with a different per...

Are you Missing something?

Do you know why women over 65 shouldn't have babies? They'd forget where they put them. Actually, I don't really think it has to do with being over 65. I have a hard time remembering where my children are and I am NOT even CLOSE to being 65. Every once in a while, I panic. I think "I must be missing something; everything is so quiet". When the kids were little, this usually had to do with the fact that they were up to no good. Now that they are older, it's more to do with the fact that I'm living in constant expectation that I have forgotten they were somewhere and I was supposed to pick them up or drop them off. I remember being so tired as a young mom. Running around all day stepping on lego , and dollies wears on a woman. When it came time for napping, I was certainly ready, but the kids weren't. Oh boy the knock-down, drag-em-out fights we could have over my insistence that they have a nap because Mommy was tired. [Something like my mother insisti...

Just for Fun

didn't mean it Awhile ago, I was on Lovella's blog and she was explaining how to do a strikethrough but I didn't get it. Today, I stumbled on it in another application. I followed the instructions and wrote them down to give it a try. So I am trying it out to see if it works. I don't think it worked, but I'll keep trying.I also learned how to check my messages remotely today. And they thought i couldn't do it!!!!! It's always good to learn about new things and put them in your arsenal, in case you are at a job interview and they say: "do you know how to strike through on an article". Or perhaps "and if you were at home and needed to check your messages, how would you do that? "And you say "yes, as a matter of fact, I do" and then they ask you to prove it. That's how you get the big buck jobs! I just hope no one asks me how good at proof reading I am. !

Going to Heaven without Dieting

Image
Yesterday in the big group Sunday School lesson, the teacher was asking questions about previous weeks' lessons using the Power Point. He would ask a question, the kids would answer and then the answer would come up on the Power Point. Questions like "Which happened first - Noah or Abraham". Then the most interesting question came up. "Who went to heaven without dieting?" Oh boy, that piqued my interest! I would like to go to Heaven without dieting! Then I looked again. It actually said "Who went to heaven without dieing". O.k. so it was a typo, but it got me thinking. To me, diet is a four letter word. Many years ago, I went to a "Diet Center". They promised me that I would lose weight on their program. I went there because the Dr. told me that I could stand to lose 10 pounds. (I bet she'd say something different now...maybe up the number a bit??). SO off I went to the Diet Center and began their vigorous program. The first step was to g...

Spreading the love about...

How many women with PMS does it take to screw in a light bulb? ONE!! And do you know WHY it only takes ONE? Because no one else in this house knows HOW to change a light bulb . They don't even know the bulb is BURNED OUT. They would sit in this house in the dark for THREE DAYS before they figured it OUT. And once they figured it out they wouldn't be able to find the lightbulbs despite the fact that they've been in the SAME CUPBOARD for the past SEVENTEEN YEARS. But if they did, by some miracle, find and change the lightbulbs , TWO DAYS LATER the chair that they dragged from two rooms over to stand on to change the STUPID lightbulb would STILL BE IN THE SAME SPOT!!!!!!! AND UNDERNEATH IT WOULD BE THE CRUMPLED WRAPPER THAT THE STUPID LIGHT BULBS CAME IN. WHY??? BECAUSE NO ONE IN THIS HOUSE EVER CARRIES OUT THE GARBAGE !!!! IT'S A WONDER WE HAVEN'T ALL SUFFOCATED FROM THE PILES OF GARBAGE THAT ARE 12 FEET DEEP THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE HOUSE. THE HOUSE!! THE HOUS...
