RRRRant

A few months ago, I was listening to a radio program and heard that overused phrase: " At the end of the day ".  A.g.a.i.n.  As in: " At the end of the day , the hockey team just has to win more games to get into cup play".  and " At the end of the day , we know that people will never stop using overused phrases". I've added it to my pet peeves about the way people use the English language, along with " There's a disconnect ".  I plan to charge a dollar to everyone who says either of these phrases from now on.  I may become a millionaire. I recognize that we treat English in a much more casual manner than when I was growing up. Spelling, and the correct placement of nouns and verbs has become much less important in this era of I.M.(Instant Messaging). We are all in a hurry and have the need for speed. But when I read " I relly want to believe that UR smrtr than me " it makes me want to scrape my fingernails down the neares...

Garden Party

("I come home from  work, and go straight to the garden every night" declared that owner.)  Some were dangerous (straight down the broken cement pathway) We saw this d...

Silver Celebration

One of the many celebrations we have experienced this year was our 25th anniversary.  I remember attending a few of my Aunts' and Uncles'25th anniversaries - and they were big events - a small hall was rented, there were speeches and dancing and lots of food and drink.  I thought it seemed unreal that these people had been married for more than half their life.  I couldn't imagine it ever happening to me.  And suddenly there it was.  Our Silver Anniversary.  The days of celebrating such a grand occasion with a party as big as your wedding are gone.  Mostly now, these get marked by a casual party - sometimes at the couple's house. We decided to mark it in a couple of ways - a private dinner with my husband and me at a restaurant of my choosing (I had a coupon) - and then the family invited us to a dinner at my  in-law's place a few days later. We enjoyed our meal out.  It happened to be at a restaurant that my husband had designe...
