Why Garage Sales are GUD4U
Friday night, I was reading the paper and saw that there was a garage sale on our street. This is an unusual occurrence because we don't live in the main area of town. In fact, we are rather removed from the centre. Since we've moved here, we haven't been to a whole lot of garage sales, because on a Saturday morning, after the pancake breakfast, it seems too much work to pile in the van and head to town to find cheap treasures.
However, we could walk to this one, so on Saturday morning, we got up and pulled ourselves together enough to look presentable, and headed down the road.
The garage sale was full of treasures. There were reasonable ones, cheap ones, and even free ones. But the best part was introducing ourselves to some new neighbours and greeting a few with whom we had already begun to establish neighbourly relations. When the garage sale people found out who we were, they commented "Oh, YOu're The SHeep PeopPle". We smiled and apologized, just in case our sheep had found their way down the road to their place. They hadn't, but the garage sale mistress told us a funny story about how on one of their walks, they had found a sheep stuck in the fence (this was before we actually lived there) and how they'd tried to get it unstuck, and finally had to enlist the help of another neighbour.
We told them that we were trying to get rid of the sheep because we were struggling with fencing. Then we asked who the people were who had put up that 'beautiful fence' a few weeks ago. They mentioned her name, but I forgot right away.
After that we went home with our treasures (this for another post).
The next day, I came home to find someone talking to my husband. I hid inside, because I figured it was YET another neighbour coming to tell him that our sheep had gotten out into their field. A little while later, they wandered over and I found out that she was the 'beautiful fence lady'. She had been to the garage sale and the garage sale mistress mentioned that we had asked about her fence, and that we were trying to get rid of the sheep.
She said that she might be interested in some of them. By the end of the evening, she'd decided to take all 15 of the the lambs and pasture them behind her beautiful fence. We high-fived each other and loaded the lambs into the trailer, and trucked them down the 1/2 km. to her place. They ran through the gate and never looked back.
Then we went to Dairy Queen to celebrate. And that, my friends is why garage sales are GUD4U.
