Christmas with the In-Laws.
If I had made a list of the top ten things about spending a weekend away it would look like this:
10. I wouldn't have to make any meals - just show up and they would appear.
10. I wouldn't have to make any meals - just show up and they would appear.
09. I would not have to worry about dishes.
08. I would be in a warm, dry, inviting place.
07. We would make lots of great memories.
06. We would have lots of laughter - sharing in-jokes and making new ones.
05. We would play a game, and no one would end up crying or stomping off, because we hadn't played the game their way.
04. There would be plenty of snacks - both 'healthy' and 'junky' .
03. There would be no schedule, but everyone would hang out with everyone just for the fun of hanging out together.
02. Hot tub would be a nice option.
01. My family would be with me.
Oh wait.
That was last weekend!
What a fabulous time we had! My father-in-law and mother-in-law invited us to share the weekend with them at the camp as an 'after Christmas getaway'. They booked a cabin big enough for all of us to share. There were two fireplaces, and leather couches, (which the dog discovered in a quiet moment in the middle of the night), two fridges, a microwave, two showers and a bathtub! (although I ran out of time to take advantage of it) There were plenty of rooms to sleep in. And none of us had to share a bed. Unless we wanted to.
We brought tons of snacks to share. Kettle Corn, gummie bears, Smarties, bridge mix and drinks - in fact we had so much stuff, that we ran out of time to eat it all. On top of it all, the camp provided two wonderful snack trays with fruit and cheese and squares and more juice in case we got thirsty. And that was all before we ate the meals.
It is amazing how time flies when you are not making the meals and serving them. Hardly had we got up, than it was time to eat breakfast. If you didn't make breakfast because you slept in, well, no worries, lunch was close behind. Even supper was served close on the heels of lunch. And there were no dishes for us to worry about. That eliminated choosing names for who was going to do the chores while the rest of us lounged
about.
about.
We all took turns fitting pieces in and then realizing they didn't go there, and mocking the person who was so silly for thinking so. If someone had something they had to do, there was no schedule to say that they couldn't get away to do it, but when they came back, they were immediately a part of what was going on.
We played games - with a lot of good-natured arguing over the rules. We kicked the ball around in the gym, and went to the hot tub and stayed there until it was hard to decipher us from a Wrinkle pup.
We went for walks, had naps
and enjoyed the great outdoors. [And filled our boots...so to speak]
.
It felt like we'd had a real holiday. We came back home relaxed and refreshed and thankful for the blessings we enjoy because we are family.
