A Few of My Favourite Things

"The captains and the kings have departed", as my mother used to say. Christmas 2010 is now in the memory books. It was a wonderful time. Here are a few pictures of my favourite things from this celebration.
I bought 10 Paper Whites - we gave some away as presents to our neighbours as a thank you for keeping watch over our sheep over the past year. The rest I kept to enjoy at home. They bloom and bloom. So pretty. Christmas-like without being red.

One of my very my favourite things was that we were 'home' for Christmas. Although there are many things to accomplish yet, it is so nice to be driving down the road as home owners and not demolitionists. It was a pleasure to pull out my Christmas plates and some of the decorations, and watch the kids decorate the tree.

And this was another of my absolute favourites. The fireplace! It was my husband's gift to me. We landed at the store at the exact right time, to get the last one of these - and they gave it to us for a discount on top of a discount. We had to resist the urge to yell "START THE CAR! START THE CAR!"

Because we don't have any central heating yet, it has given us much-needed warmth and a much-enjoyed feeling of having a homey atmosphere.

My daughter moved back home. It's been a year since she lived with us. It has been so nice to have another female in the house. She also got my name for stocking exchange. She filled this basket with all sorts of girlie things. So I spent yesterday afternoon painting and primping.

My mother-in-law found the cutest, warmest, coziest slippers for me. They make me happy every time I wear them. And I am sure that they help me get my work done more efficiently!

They even have tails at the back of the slipper!

I loved watching my husband open his stocking. We found the other sandal in one of the storage boxes and wrapped it up to give to him. He was pleasantly surprised. And glad he hadn't thrown out the other one. Fun for a buck.

The excitement was just too much for him.

After a big dinner, and entertainment by his wife and sister on the piano, he fell asleep. No doubt, there are visions of sugar plums dancing in his head.
