Warm Spots and Cold Spots and a Shoulder to Cry on

On the lake at my Dad's cottage, there are warm spots. Swimming in them is a lovely break from trying to adjust to the chilly temperature of the rest of the lake. However, the warm spots are small in comparison to the rest of the lake. And if you want to swim over to explore the little island across the way, you cannot stay in them forever. You must be brave and get through the shock of going back into the bracing temperature of the other parts of the lake.

There are warm spots moments in life too - when things go so well, and it seems nothing can ever go wrong again. When I find myself in a warm spot I try to fool myself into believing that I will never have to leave. I try to forget there are times coming, when I will be chilled to the bone by the events of life. I'd rather stay in THAT spot for a little longer because it feels sooo good. The reality of course, is that the adventures of life demand that I move on and explore what life has next - whether that be a cold spot or another warm spot.

It helps to know that in the hard times, I can take it to God and talk to Him about all that's in my heart. I picture myself, sitting on my Heavenly Father's lap, and pouring it all out before Him. He smiles and says "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life"(Matthew6:27) I laugh and say "Well I've certainly tried!!! Then He says "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:27) I let that truth wash over me. God's got it all under control. I can relax. Having laid my burdens down, the adrenalin eventually drains out of me. By this time, I'm usually a little sleepy, so I crawl into my bed and repeat "I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety." (Psalm 4:8)

I completely understand - well from my view of life. Hmm... August was a wonderfully warm spot, and September, well, ... I am glad to report, I found another warm spot! Thanks for the perspective.
