Head Basher House

The real estate agent had arranged for us to see five places on that day of acreage hunting. We looked at the first two in short succession. The visits were not long. Basically we were just interested in seeing what was available in our price range. All of them were very small, but they boasted of great things. We saw the first two places in quick succession.
We were at the third place longer.

It wasn't that we fell in love with the place. It just took longer to extricate ourselves from the event that took place.

On the real estate advertisement, we saw that it said there were three bedrooms. Three bedrooms would work better for our family. We walked into the house and right away we were in the kitchen.
We took some time to check out the cupboards and the dishwasher, and the sub-compactor. Then we moved into the living room area.

What was interesting was the "office" at the end of the living room. It actually was the entrance, but they had blocked the door and squished a desk and computer in there.

There was one bedroom on the main floor. We wondered where the other two bedrooms were. Then we saw two doors side by side. We opened one and saw that a bathroom had been cut out. It was basically a hallway with a wall that only went part way up, and you almost had to walk in side ways to get into it in the first place.

My husband got to the other door first. He found stairs and went up to investigate. I took some time to wonder how in the world, they could have called that a bathroom. Then I went to the second door. What I found was a set of stairs that went up about five steps, then turned an extremely sharp corner and there were several more steps into the next "bedroom".

I was looking at several things as I went up the stairs. First, I was amazed at the length of each step. They were extremely narrow. Second, there was no handrail. As I climbed them, I thought of how dangerous it was that there was no stopping someone falling over the edge to the bottom of the stairs.

I was being very careful not to fall over the edge myself. That's why I did not see that the doorway into the third bedroom was only 4 feet tall. I am more than 4 feet tall. I bashed my head on the door way hard. The doorway is on the left of the picture..where the little patch of black is. [You will notice in the picture that there is no box spring on the bed because there is actually not enough head room to put a full mattress in there.]

"Man, that hurt!" I exclaimed, in shock. I held my head and tried to make the throbbing stop. Then my husband mentioned that I was bleeding. I checked. Yep. I was bleeding. Gushing, was more the word.

So I went back downstairs, holding my hand under my chin to try and contain the pool of blood that was forming in it. I felt very silly. Here I was in a complete strangers house, bleeding profusely all over the place, while my husband and the real estate agent looked on.

I rushed to the sink. "Is there ice in the freezer?" I asked. "Is there paper towel?". Then I stood over the sink and applied pressure to try and get the bleeding to stop.
We were there far longer than we had planned.

Bashing your head on the upstairs doorway is a deal breaker as far as I am concerned. We left there, confident that we weren't going to make an offer. We would leave that to some other lucky soul who is shorter than we are.
