New Year
I've just made two phone calls 'across the pond' as they say - to dear friends "down under". There, it is already late tomorrow afternoon. When I called them, it was 9:00 last night. Even though it is still today here. As I wrap my mind around that one, I am also wrapping my mind around the fact that 2008 has come to a close. And in just a few more hours, 2009 will be a fresh new page in the history book.I have just taken a few moments to look over 'what happened' in my daytimer. It is filled with various appointments, and notes, phone numbers, notes to self - all things I was busy taking care of. There were times when I felt like I was "off to the next crisis" as my mother used to say. Other times when I had some space to enjoy looking at (and smelling) the roses.
And somewhere near the end of this year, the phrase "JUST FOR TODAY" became my mantra. I realized anew, I only have today given to me - to worry about tomorrow and how I would handle is a useless procedure. I began praying "JUST FOR TODAY- Lord - let me do my best. Let me face the challenges in a way that would please You. I can't do anything about yesterday or tomorrow, but JUST FOR TODAY, I want to be who you want me to be". Sometimes, all I could get out was "JUST FOR TODAY".
And now at the end of this year, I can truly say that God answered that prayer in so many big and small ways. - I am truly amazed and truly thankful. So for 2009, instead of setting a major goal for the whole year, I am going to continue on with this prayer. "JUST FOR TODAY LORD".
As the old song says:
Many things about tomorrow,
I don't seem to understand;
But I know Who holds tomorrow,
And I know Who holds my hand
(I Know Who Holds Tomorrow - Ira Stanphill )
Happy New Year!
